Week 2: The future focussed teachers of today
Does my canoe have a paddle? This week saw me looking more like a relic than a future focused teacher.
I have always been quite nervous about 'change' but I have learnt to accept it and paddle faster to absorb new ideas or processes. However I think this is where my 'fear' of technology stems.
Technology changes more quickly than any other medium I work with. Children 'change' but they still stay relatively the same in the classroom :)
The technologies we reviewed this week 'frightened' me a little. I can not say I particularly enjoyed the 'ghost' writer appearance that was provided by 'padlet' or 'onenote'. I can see the benefits of being able to share ideas on one platform and update or add to an idea. I think my problem is that I am quite possessive of my space or ideas. I can accept criticism and suggestions for improvement - but I prefer the option to make those changes when I feel fit to do so. I don't think having them added to or changed without my knowledge make me want to use those sharing type technologies. I will see how these thoughts progress as this Topic unfolds.
I liked the ideas behind Prezzi and the querky way that a presentation can be pulled together - I am not totally sure I understood how this had been done and would have liked more directive - thank goodness for youtube and wikihow (two technologies I grasp quite firmly at).
Google forms left we a little puzzled - but I do like the possibilities this might allow for classroom voting and parent questionaires (assuming they have technology access).
I just hope I can keep my head above water and enjoy these new digital areas thrown out to me. I will let you know how it goes...
